TEN BEST FOODS YOU AREN'T EATING

 


BERMUDA CRUSH
 
4 ounces pineapple juice
2 ounces orange juice
2 ounces grapefruit juice
2 ounces cream of coconut
4 ounces white rum
1 ounce grenadine

Crushed iced to the level of the mix


Mix and serve in a tall glass.

 

BRANDIED CIDER
 
1 orange
1 lemon
1 1/2 quarts unsweetened apple cider (48 oz. bottle)
3 cinnamon sticks
1 TB. cloves
1 TB allspice
Peach brandy


Slice orange and lemon in rings. Place spices in cheesecloth bag or prepare to strain. Add all ingredients except brandy to crockpot. Turn to low setting. Let simmer for at least 2 hours. Flavor is enhanced by additional time in crockpot. When ready to serve, pour jigger of peach brandy into cup and fill with cider. (Plus, makes your home smell wonderful!)

 

GLÖGG - TRADITIONAL CHRISTMAS PUNCH

3 cups water
1 1/2 cups sugar

In cheesecloth bag:
10 open cardamon seeds
10 whole cloves
Thin peel of 1 lemon

1 cinnamon stick

1/2 cup golden raisins
1 cup almonds
1 six-ounce pkg. dried apricots
1/4 small ginger root
1 large bottle dry red wine
2 cups brandy


Heat water and sugar to boil. Put in a crockpot on low. Add cheesecloth bag with spices and peels. Continue by adding cinnamon, raisins, almonds, fruit, ginger and liquids. Heat slowly for 8 hours. Serve warm in punch cups or wine glasses, with spoon to eat fruits.

 

NOBODY DOESN'T LOVE KAHLUA
 
3 ounces Kahlua
1 1/2 ounces light creme de cacao
1 tsp. instant coffee
Vanilla ice cream
Nutmeg


In blender add Kahlua, creme de cacao and coffee. Fill blender with ice cream and blend thoroughly. You'll probably need to add more ice cream and blend more. Mixture should be thick. Serve in martini glasses and lightly sprinkle nutmeg over top.

 

SANGRIA
 
2 fifths burgundy
1 six-ounce can orange juice concentrate
3 quarts club soda
Approximately 1 cup sugar
Ice ring (optional)


Chill wine and club soda. Mix fruit juice with wine. Add club soda and sugar. Pour over ice ring and serve.

Ice ring: Mix orange juice and strawberries or other fruits in ring mold; freeze.

 

 

RUM WASSAIL

1 cup sugar

In cheesecloth bag: 1 tsp. ground allspice
20 whole cloves
8 sticks cinnamon

4 cups cranberry juice

4 twelve-ounce cans frozen apple juice concentrate, diluted according to directions on can
1 cup rum (optional)


Tie allspice, cloves and cinnamon in cheesecloth. Combine sugar and juices in 2-gallon container and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove spice bag and add rum just before serving.

 

BEST BLOODY MARYS

Sure, you could buy a pre-mix. But don't.

3 quarts tomato juice
3 cups vodka
1/3 cup steak sauce
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

2 1/2 Tb. salt
3 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. hot sauce
Juice of 12 limes
Lime slices
Celery sticks


Combine first 8 ingredients, stirring well. Pour into punch bowl. Float lime slices on top. To serve, pour Bloody Marys into ice-filled glasses and garnish with celery sticks.

 

 

MILK PUNCH

1 1/2 gallons milk
1 1/2 gallons vanilla ice cream
1 fifth bourbon
Nutmeg


Put ice cream into punch bowl and break into several pieces with a spoon. Pour in bourbon and then milk. Stir to mix. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
